All the pretty things - glass teapots

A lovely friend of mine has recently been posting instagram pics featuring a fabulous tall, ribbed glass teapot she received from a girlfriend familiar with her love of tea and gorgeousness.

I am not ashamed to admit that I covet that pot.

As part of my ongoing efforts to replace bad habits with better ones, I'm trying to minimise my milky sweet tea consumption in favour of refreshing herbal infusions. Obviously, a beautiful pot would help with this. It is practically medicinal!

I've been having a little look around and come up with this short list - I think 1. and 4. are front runners, with 4 maybe sneaking an edge for the pretty ribbed effect.

What do you think? Do you have a favourite?

Do you sip mint tea or are you builders brew all the way...?

I'm dreaming of a personalised christmas...

Storage_jar_168cl-mummys-personalise
Blue and white Cornish ware has misty childhood memories for me as my mum had loads when I was small (it has mysteriously vanished over the years, much to her chagrin and mine). Still produced by the estimable TG Green, it is now available in a variety of colours. Including - my favourite - cherry red.

And - excuse me while I take a moment - I have just discovered (via the rather fabulous, and ever informative, India Knight) that they now offer a personalisation service!

Which sets me thinking of numerous possible gifts for family, and of even more potential gifts for (and probably from) me...

wish list: sexy storage

I-300-EKC 8 NG 02 low res

This ticks just about every box for me: hand made from sustainable materials in the UK? (tick) Slightly scandi feel? (tick) Funky retro styling whereby I could pretend to be in an old-style grocery store (a la our local, rarely resistible, Jones Dairy)? (tick) Lush north-european colours? (tick) Kitchen storage to give my baking gubbins, under contant threat of eviction from precious cupboard space, a happy home? (tick)...

Now if only I had a few hundred pounds to spare right now. Pesky Project Nifty Thrifty!

I'll just have to keep playing Dorset Cereals Spin the bottle game this week and hope extra hard that I get (very, very) lucky!

wish list: educational loveliness

Poster_white_bg_large

How fabulous is this poster by Mogu Takahashi? Its the first of an exciting new Pikabooks venture from the always inspiring Pikaland, and teaches basic Japanese. And for only $20. So cool.

I'm sure that I need this, curse Project Nifty Thrifty. Still, I must learn to live lightly (must live lightly, lightly...) not least because we have no space. Literally: I spent the best part of an hour today trying to find a laundry bin to fit in the only minute scrap of floor space we have for one. Just as soon as I find somewhere to put the suitcase currently occupying it.

We do have a laundry bin, I hasten to add, but since the bedroom was rearranged this weekend (so I can actually sit on a chair at my splendid executive desk rather than perch on a pile of cushions on the edge of the bed for eight hours a day, mangling my spine in the process) the only place we could fit it has been on on top of the chest of drawers meaning it is above head height. Handy.

Still, the loveliness will remain on my wish list. After all, who knows when I'll need to be able to say 'shoes' in Japanese...

Inspiring stuff

via joannarutter.bigcartel.com

I've just discovered the gorgeous work of Joanna Rutter (via Bugs and Fishes). Simple loveliness: there are at least half a dozen things that I would LOVE to find in my Christmas stocking (I know I know, I only - well, mainly - say Christmas as I'm a summer baby so my birthday is behind me for another year).

Yet more of a reminder that I need to get on with making - or at least attempting - some simple loveliness of my own.

one day...

  OliverbonasEmilyfrock

I love nursing Kit, really I do. And I am so very grateful that, by and large, feeding has gone well for us. It does, however, present certain sartorial challenges, or at least limitations. I love this dress, for instance, but (setting aside the fact that my engorged bosom would look frankly frightening snugly clad in cerise) can you imagine trying to breastfeed in it?

Perhaps next summer...

wish list #1

Divinetwine-blue

While I've been catching up on my blogrolls I have, as usual, been adding things to my personal wish list.

I know I'm not alone in my weakness for bakers twine. Stupidly hard to find in the UK, I love this blue version from Divine Twine (a possible packaging option if - no, when - I get my long-mooted lovely things business up and running?)... so now I'm wondering: is it too stupid to ship string across the Atlantic?

Also on my wish list are this beautiful dish and this fabulous print. I've been very slack at remembering where I spotted these but I'm pretty sure most, if not all, are via the ever lovely Bright Side Project. They certainly brightened my day!
